These positions are supported by the Canada Summer Jobs program.

Eligible participants must:
• be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
• be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
• have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment; and
• be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

International students are not eligible for the CSJ program.

Tour Guide

This position will:

Research and create descriptive summaries of artefacts within and part of the built environment to contribute to a comprehensive catalogue.

Review historical materials related to St. Andrew's United Church, Fort Massey United Church, St. Matthew's United Church and Kjipuktuk (Halifax).

Greet visitors and offer interpretive tours of the church sanctuaries.

Share information on available community outreach programs in the area.

The successful candidate should be aware of Mi’kmaq and African Nova Scotian experiences in Kjipuktuk (Halifax), and have knowledge of women’s history, art and literary contributions as well as changing role of women in Nova Scotia.

Strong communication skills required. Proficiency in language(s) other than English considered an asset.

Office Assistant

This position will provide support to full-time staff and volunteer committee members to ensure smooth and efficient operation of programs and activities.

This will include:
• Answering phone inquiries
• Greeting visitors at the door and responding to their inquiries
• Placing orders for materials and supplies
• Preparing documents and presentations
• Updating website and social media accounts
• Distributing mail to various staff members
• Maintaining a clean and tidy office environment
• Recording and depositing donations received
• Contributing to creation of weekly newsletter
• Creating digital copies of paper documents and file appropriately
• Manage/organize archival documents
• Assisting in preparing rental agreements for community user groups
• May assist with preparing for weekly worship services, wedding ceremonies and funerals
• Scheduling meetings and ensure that materials and supplies are prepared in advance for committee chairs. This may include using technology to facilitate remote or hybrid meetings, operating sound and lighting systems.
